Why don't google leave my ads alone.

Problem with 0.4% conversion rate ad.

I am advertising a certain keyword to a certain market. It is a very general keyword, but which as a very high conversion rate.

It brings in a few hundred hits a day, with a 10% conversion rate.

The problem is, because it is a very general keyword, the CTR rate is very low at 0.4% and Google is always kicking out the ad.

I have tried writing new copy a half dozen times and im still kicked out.

There are only four advertisers for this keyword, and I do not understand their rational with such a low number of advertisers.

How do I get google to just take my money and leave my *&$#&@& keywords alone?

10%? No, your actually getting 10% of 0.4% (0.04%).

Try finging out what people are searching for and use negative keywords to stop people ignpring your advert:

eg) (for Lightbulbs, for example):
Lightbulbs
Lightbulb
-faulty
-repair
-repairer
-second hand
-secondhand
-red
-blue
-green
-yellow
-installer
-installation

Effective us of negatives should double that clickthrough rate.

Thanks.

Can you use muliple negatives on the same line

ie -red -green -blue widget

or must it be

-red widget
-green widget
-blue widget

as three keyword combos

You may even be better off taking some time to look up what keyword phrases that involve your general keyword are relevant to your ad and then listing them all as your keywords.

I find this to be more effctive than negative keywords because then you are actually able to see where the breakdown is and correct it by eliminating those keywords through the use of the negatives or by parceing the under performing keywords into seperate ads that can be better targeted to that specific keyword. The other bonus of doing it this way is that google will shut down underperforming individual keyword phrases rather than the whole ad.

also, if you're usin keywword, ALSO use "keyword" and [keyword].

It will split your impressions 3 ways, and give you 3 times 1% limit.. so only on variant will eventually run out, and probably much later.

Very good suggestion SN. The best way to go about it in your situation is -

widget
[widget]
"widget"
red widget (from Overture)
blue widget (from Overture
green widget(from Overture)
-black (from Overture)
-free (from Overture)
