Google API Problem

Getting different results from what I see

I am currently running the Google API to query the google DB so I can report on the numbers for my site.

Then problem is that the position that I am getting through the API differs from what I see in the SERPs. The API shows a higher ranking than the SERPs show. There is no pattern to the difference on any of the keywords.

Does anyone know why this happens, or does anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix it?
