Just thought I'd through this one in here. I am seeing this on one of my websites that has a main page banned from Google (yeah, for no apparent reason, blah, doesn't really change the question).
My question is: in IE 6.0 with Google toolbar I still see PageRank 5 (tried 4 PCs). However in FireFox's plugin it shows N/A for the main page, as it should, because the main page is no longer in Google$.
Is there a reason?
Main page is www.mysite.com/mainfolder/index.asp
www.mysite.com is 301-redirected to that.
Also, www.mysite.com/mainfolder/ has PageRank of 4 (different URL, I guess).
Question of the day:
Can a page that is not in Google have a PageRank?
Or am I missing something?
Thousands of webmasters who user "official" Google$ toolbar will never know that they have banned pages on their site (or the whole site), becase of this. They will be scratching their heads why their Google traffic tanked. More sofisticated will be looking for a "duplicate content" penalty or a "302-highjack" that are a fiction.
Tool Bar PR:
For IE6: Version 2: Home page PR4
For IE6: Version 3: Home page PR3
For FireFox: : Home Page PR3
His Seconary Links Page where he outlinks to other sites
For IE6: Version 2: Links Page PR4
For IE6: Version 3: Links Page PR1
For FireFox: : Links Page PR2
I uninstaled all TOOLBARS and dont think will ever install it again.
after Last PR Update, a week or so, my friend asked me -"If your PR is higher than your competitors PR, why is he #2 in Google and you are not in frist 1000". I simply replied, I made a mistake Adverising with AdWords. Traffic from Google Search engine: 10 a month for the keyword that I dont need to have people here, at all. Traffic from GoogleBot(s) 1000s of visits every month.
Main Keyword:
Yahoo: position 9 of 1,670,000
MSN: position 2 and 3 out of 5,048,710
I feel like the Google spiders my site just to have the data in case they need something to play with.
alexL, I feel what you saying.
