Combining PR from 2 sites

I have two websites with PR of 3 and 4 respectively. They are on the same server and deal with same subject but have different content and page indexing.

If I combine two websites and set site #1 with PR 3 as alias/sub-domain for site #2 with PR 4 - would this boost PR for site #2 to a higher PR?

The PR scale is a log scale therefore it may not have any effect at all. I all depends if the site that link to site #1 are the same sites that link to site #2.

If they are: no effect, if they are not: possibility of a small boost.
