One thing I was pleased about is that although the specs say you have to have IE, you don't need to actually use it. I've recently switched over the Netscape 7.1, which I far prefer in many ways to IE. The Deskbar opens the search results in my default browser, which was a pleasant surprise.
I'd still love Google to have a Google Toolbar for NN, however. Has anyone heard any rumors about that possibility?
