Errant Google toolbar and link results

Google Toolbar is not consistent. Also the link report is not correct.

I will appreciate if someone can answer the following questions for me -

our website used to have a pagerank of 5. It then went over to 6 stayed on it for a week and dropped back to 4. In the link report Google shows only 30 inbound links. I know for fact that there are more links that come in to our website than what Google is showing. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Everyone is seeing this, neither the toolbar nor the backlinks really mean anything now. Most people believe that the "real" PR and backlinks are stable, and that it is only the displayed values that are fluctuating.

Why? Only Google knows.
