PR of actual page linking to you

Is it the linking site or page that needs PR4+?

I am finally getting some quality links after weeks of hard graft. But as the links start coming in I start worrying about certain issues that might affect my overall PR boost.

I am carefully selecting only PR4+ sites relevant to my business for the links. However whilst their home / index pages may be PR4+ the rank for their internal "links" page may be less - in some cases PR 2 or 3. Does Google recognise the PR quality of the linking site as a whole or just the page that actually links to you? Should you actually focus on sites with high PR link pages or is this over elaborating?

Ive tried organising backlinks to a number of different pages within my site with relevant anchor. Some webmasters are reluctant to provide more than one link however and this generally ends up being your home page. How crucial is it to spread links across your site and should you spread external links also to maximise your sites overall PR potential?

Id appreciate any views on this
Thanks

Google's view of the net is that it is a collection of interconnected pages. A link is between two pages, not between two sites. So the only PR that matters to you is the PR of the links page.

But remember, it is not only you who is getting lesser PR from a links page. So are all your competitors, so unless a specific links page is penalized (no way to know with the malfunctioning PR in the toolbar) it really does not matter.
