Google: Why not have a 'out or order' message?

Hey GoogleGuy

I understand there are some problems with the toolbar-page-rank tool. Why don't you put a message on it to say that it isn't working? It is giving out some bad messages about good companies.

How many people are looking at my PR6 site and getting a message from their toolbar to say its not a good site? One day it says
- '0/10 - PageRank is Google's measure of the importance of this page'
- The next day it says 'Current page is not ranked by Google'...
- Another day it says 6/10.

I just spoke to a potential customer on the phone about doing some design work for his company, he looks up my site while were talking and says "O your site isn't ranked by Google, my site gets a 5 out of 10 on Google you know...".

I agree that Google should do SOMETHING.

I do find it frustrating, both for checking on my own site and for checking others'.

Hmm, from Google's perspective, is that a bug or a feature ;)

Whatever Google's reason is, and bug or otherwise, it's not good policy to promote a product and then continue to distribute it and keep it available if it's faulty and functioning incorrectly - which it is. It's inaccurate and some would even interpret it as being deceptive. It would be better altogether for all concerned if the PR feature were disabled altogether.

I have read a few pst as much like this one - I have never had a problem (that I have noticed) with PR on the latest version of the tool bar. Sometimes the PR for a site is a little slow in showing on some sites but overall I see a PR for just about every site I visit. Some do not have a PR but this could be due to various reasons.

As far as my site I have ahd a PR of 5 and it always shows for me. I wonder what the over all results are for PR problems of it is only certain user s having a problem? i.e. a common enviroment etc...

So how hard would it be for Google to display a message saying 'no info available for this page' if that is the case? Instead of: - '0/10 - PageRank is Google's measure of the importance of this page' - for pages that are clearly not spamming or doing anything bad.

I understand and appreciate why 0/10 should appear if the page is doing something bad. But other pages e.g. not ranked yet or if there is a toolbar bug it should say - 'no info available'.

Otherwise Google you are telling the world that Google says this is a bad page.
