New Windows OS = Demise of Google Toolbar

If there's no IE, where can hang the toolbar?

We all know that MS is doing away with IE as a standalone product in order to integrate browsing into the desktop. But a big implication of this is that there may no longer be a place to hang your toolbar.

I'm loyal enough to my toolbar that I'll forego upgrading to Longhorn.

If you ask me, IE not being a standalone product is more about MS's struggle to hold onto it's browser userbase than a major technology change, so I'm guessing that there will still be 3rd party toolbar functionality in the new MS OS anyway.

Also, other than pagerank, the toolbar features are pretty well emulated elsewhere (like the Googlebar for Mozilla). Although I'm guessing PR is the favourite feature ;)

Lol, says quite a bit about MS I think ;)

Maybe the next browser to hit the market will be GE 1.0.

What and do away with ActiveX? But it's so useful and secure! ;)

Haha, that could be quite cool. "Google Explorer has encountered difficulties and will be shut down". Might be the worst branding exercise ever ;)

>Stanford eggheads

I think they would really need some Harvard Law eggheads.

If MS kills their own browser, I doubt they will make it easy for anyone else to get on the desktop.

I love the toolbar.

Thinking of the possible effects of not having IE availible on future editions of MS Windows goes to show how happy some of us are with IE. Thanks to all the people that don't like the fact the MS ships a decent (of course in my opnion :) product that has very worthwhile add ons (such as Goolge Toolbar), us who are OK with IE and love the Google Toolbar have to make comprimises. If I wanted Netscape.......and no Google Toolbar, i would go and download netscape.

I am sure MANY of you disagree with me!

If you really want the Google toolbar, why not use the better browser while you are at it?

[snip] See the MozDev project called "Googlebar"

"our current release emulates all of the basic search functionality of the toolbar"

What does "Basic Search" Mean?!

As long as the idea that the google toolbar *MAY* suggest sites to the googlebot, i will sure as he11 be using it!

Take Care

MS has been very quiet recently....I think they are building something that is going to rock the world big-time.

I see a nuclear blast so large in the future that all other elements get demoted to the status of insignificant.

The only strategy for anyone with 95% of the OS and brower market that makes sense is domination of all elements not yet covered....which means the end of Google, the semi demise of Yahoo and the considerable promotion of an MS search facility totally integrated into the OS.....a feature not many "Joe's" will be able to resist.

Big story of 2005.....Is MS unbeatable?
