Anyone know anything about the Voting Buttons?

Last I heard, the voting buttons were just an experimental feature. Can anyone add to this?

they used to mean an instant crawl of the site if it wasn't indexed, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

They are just used to "Vote" for a page, noone knows if the data is used in the algo or not, but googleguy has said he uses the buttons all the time.
