PR in the toolbar

how accurate is it?

I put up a site this weekend on Geocities and opened up a page just now.

Lo, and behold, the site has PR7 (according to the toolbar, at least)! There's only 23 pages of content, each page has lots of outbound links (mostly amazon affiliate links, but each link is related to the page subject), and the only inbound links to this specific page come internally.

I did submit it to the Google directory for spidering, perhaps it acknowledges the presence?

Are all "new arrivals" on Geocities given this kind of warm reception from Google?

Wouldn't that be great - but it's not the case. It takes lots of hard work to get a PR of 7....

Read this about Geocities Rank [webmasterworld.com] so nicely put by andrey_sea (half way down page)

Weisinator,

If you pull up your page and click "page info" - "Cached Snapshot" you can at least tell if you are in the database. If you're not, you can bet the PR7 is not real. The site in your profile appears to be a bona fide PR6 for comparison purposes. But on the backward link function, your site yields very few inbounds so that even seems un likely.

I find a page with no data, just a white page, they owned pr6.

I use backmachine archieve.org to check the record they update,
no data also.

this is www.sanyo.com.cn

It's all clear to me now.

I have another site on Geocities that's a bona-fide PR0. It's cached, but it never shows up in serps. Last month it was a PR6. :)

kch333: The site has 2 backward links. One with PR7 and another one with 4. That's enough to get PR6.

Update: The Site in question has settled on a PR3, though the only thing Google cached is the "under construction" page.
