Does submitting a mask URL affect ranking

Say, for example my company name was "bob smith tools" and amongst other things we sold widgets.

Say I submitted the mask URL www.widgets.com which masks my real domain name www.bob-smith-tools.com - would this improve ranking for widgets? Could I do the same for hammers ie. www.hammers.com masking www.bob-smith-tools.com? I would still have the generic www.bob-smith-tools.com on my headed notepaper and in the ranking too.

You could do that.

It would be a bad idea.

It can't help, and might possibly harm, your Google pagerank.
