The main perps in this are Eircom and the Irish government. Ireland lags behind the rest of the world as regards consumer broadband. Eircom was allowed to get away with not rolling out broadband (it is the main telco in Ireland). Meanwhile the government was going around Europe trying to portray Ireland as being the 'e-hub' of Europe. E-hole more like!

(In Ireland and paying somewhere around 5832 Euros per year for a 128K leased line.)
That is a mad amount of money :-(
I have two BB connections
Home = 128k £14.99 per month (23.52 Euros)
Work = 512k £49.00 per month (76.90 Euros)
Both connections are from NTL one is a home tariff, the other is business.
The Irish perception of going online is governed by the fact they pay per minute

If it`s really that bad in Ireland, then you surely have big trouble ahead of you...
A technology graduate himself, Mr Long is considering moving out of the Republic due to the poor level of connectivity.
