I have heard that writing articles is a good way of promoting a website. Please confirm if this is correct, thanks.

Yes it is. Make sure you write high quality articles and include you keywords Naturally in the articles. Do not stuff the article full of them the SE and people will see what you are trying to doing. If the keywords fit use them if not dont.

Articles also present an oppourtunity to "deep link" to pages on your site.

There are many good freelance writiers out there sticky me if you want a few suggestion.

Best of luck in your success

Steve

I do article writing to link to my sites, on some of the free article submission sites. I did look into getting some software to submit to hundreds of sites, but i looked at some of their customers sites first, and their search engine ratings had actually gone down a lot. Maybe the search engines have got wise to these multiple types of submission?

Manual submission is the way to go. Anything that is automated the SE will sooner or later catch on to. Like everything else in life success on the Internet is hard work and dedication.

Thanks,
How many article websites should I submit the articles to, 5,10,15,20 or more? I am a bit wary of spam etc.

I am doing it mainly to gain more backward links for my sites.

There are tons of submission sites and even more free "groups" on Yahoo so on......

Do a search on the big 3 for perhaps free article submissions?

If any submission site is top five-ten on all three engines start with them. Alot of people who own sites and ezines come to article distribution sites to get free content. If your articles are high quality and highly relevant site owners will distribute the article naturally.

Write one good article of value versus ten which are stuff with keywords and people think are poo.

Is there a danger of writing too many articles, gaining too many backward links too quickly? How many would you advise per week?
Cheers,
Steve

Silverbytes. If you've never written an article before and want to learn the basics, I would suggest taking a look at one of the many writers sites for pointers.

It is definitely good but what’s the use if nobody’s coming and reading it. I think overall it needs strong marketing to get success in the marketplace.

Hey sorry - it wasn't a personal link - it was a famous writing site and magazine- i certainly don't own it! There's lot of good books you could try on how to write - just search that famous online store - same name as the rainforest - and no, i don't own that either.
