Having conquered eg. blue widgets for sale, pink widgets for sale - what does it take to hit widgets for sale?

The keywords are there so is it a matter of time and link development to rise to the top?

It all depends on :

What type of widgets you're selling

Your competitors that are also selling those same widgets

If your competitors are optimizing for "widgets for sale"

The keywords are fairly competitive, with competitors both selling and optimising for these key words also.

As mentioned i have variations of "widgets" covered well, but i appear only once (if that) in the top 200 for "widgets" on its own.

What is the best way to make the big push?

Optimize for specific types of widgets. Can't go wrong with that :)
