Moving from index.html to index.php

Will the transition be silky smooth?

I've always agreed with whoever coined 'a good page never changes'. My filenames never have and I've got some very solid old links now.

Thing is, now I want to change the filename of my index from index.html to index.php. This seems fine as everyone links to me using domain.com/ not domain.com/index.html.

Is this right? My finger is hovering over the red button and my head is swimming :)

I would go ahead with it. You may want to use your Htaccess, robots.txt, or another method to make sure that you are alright. You probably don't need to, but it never hurts to be safe.

If you have access to your .htaccess file, you may want to consider including:

<Files index.html>
ForceType application/x-httpd-php
</Files>

For me this allowed me to continue with the filename index.html but it is now parsed as if it were PHP so I can include PHP code within it.

Thanks for your help, using .htaccess seems like the smart option :)
