Traffic for my site?

Hi all, new to this!
Have just set up a web site and need tips on how to generate good traffic at little or no cost. Please help!

Here's a piece of advice that is absolutely golden:

If you haven't heard of the Open Directory before, read about that to start with. Once your site is in [dmoz.org...] you can rest assured, every spider based search engine on the planet will beat a path to indexing / ranking your site.

Add the Google Knowledge base to the above: [webmasterworld.com...]

Then work on getting links, the best place to start is the Link Development forum: [webmasterworld.com...]

If your site is non-commercial you can add it to the Yahoo! and Zeal directories for free.

Well, I wouldn't actually hold out on getting into Yahoo for free...but, there's no harm in trying!

First of all, you need good meta tags (title, description and keywords) to help generate the traffic. Next, you should do hand submission to the search engines and directories.

Since Google supplies results to Yahoo, Yahoo can be considered "free".
