I'm setting about a new directory structure for my site (after the great WebmasterWorld Pub Conference) and understand its a tricky move. I'm able to leave the current pages on (for bookmarks), hopefully avoiding duplicate content, with a message and link to the new pages.

My question is; the old pagenames have been on the internet about 18 months so will they carry more weight than the new ones for this time factor? Or is this down to the root url?

Thanks for any opinions around this subject.

The Time factor is indeed very important. Unless there is an overriding factor that you can't control, I'd leave them.
