After playing around with my title’s and descriptions to match the percentages of WPG page critic, they end up looking like a dogs dinner!
I have been told it’s the Industry standard for optimising pages, and as you guys are the industry I was hoping you could give me your views on this optimisation software.
Is it worth the effort?
I havent looked at it for years, but I would think that the whole basis for the product was developed for another time, when on page text was really the only way to do SEO. Things have changed mightily and though Im sure they have upgraded their product their USP on which the basis was conceived has now past. Im generally basing this on how often WPG users seem to over focus on such things as keyword percentages and placement and the like. It's still a factor for sure, but less and less so every day.
I've never used any optimization software, but my understanding is that at one time way back "the page" and meta tags were used for rankings, so there may have been value. There still might be for measuring densities - I don't know, I don't (and wouldn't) use it.
SEO has evolved now to where there are a whole lot of other factors involved with optimizing a site, including many that are off-page - Page Rank (Google), theming (Teoma - don't discount their future possibilities), number of links, link text, site navigation, just so many factors that page analysis has only limited value. Plus, it's not only keyword density, it's how phrasing is used, word order, placement on the page, etc., etc. Then, there are differences in what's needed depending on how competitive terms are.
There are so many variables and so many changes, so often, that it can't be possible that anyone has the full answer. If you look at the limitations of a product, and it still has features that save time and increase productivity, it might have some value - but it takes a balanced view to decide.
