I'm new in this google-based web-biz (been programing in programming only for the last two years). Now I've been thrown into the whirlwind of page ranks, googlebots, etc.... I'm managing a portal with many web pages with redundant content that deserves to be on frames(like menus, listings, etc), but my boss is worried about the google ranks and stuff... do frames affect page ranks? how? can you help me?(I will beg if I have to :( )... I tried looking in the google faq in this site but there was only one q' regarding frames...
Please help me!(and my family, btw ;) )
Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't sweat the page rank stuff too much. Just get some good basic optimization with scored keyword phrases(tm) and you'll do fine if the site is submitted well.

Frames are bad, not for PR but for SE in general. If you *have* to have /keep them, you should research on the methods to optimize with them.

The use of SSIs can eliminate most of the reasons anyone would have to use frames these days.

Thanks,
Christian

Frames arnt the best thing for SEO, but dont worry to much - have a good sitemap, inter link your pages well and have good incoming links to some of your major internal pages, and you will do fine - i have a framed site with a PR5 in a very niche catagory, and the site scores well in SE's...

So there's no problem at all?

<n00b>SSIs? what's that?</n00b>

SSI is Server Side Includes.

It allows you to create a single file and have that file be used in any or all pages that you like. It's used a lot in page navigation or to include text content in a page. It can be done as SHTML pages, but also ASP, PHP, CFM, and most other dynamic page technologies.

Thanks,
Christian
