blue fuzzy widgets
in the page a number of times unless the searcher encloses their search for Blue fuzzy widgets in quotation marks, i.e.
"blue fuzzy widgets"
It is suggested that your page will rank better if you include variations on the keyphrase such as changing the order of the words etc.
Does this not defeat the object of targeting one SPECIFIC keyphrase for each page?
This has left me feeling somewhat confused. Can anyone help me get my head round this?
thanks,
Nick
I would also think you have to repeat the phrase and not specifically change the order of the words.
On the other hand, my content is always lengthy enough to have the keywords appear in any random order throughout the page. Perhaps that is why I am not generating MORE traffic than a year ago --or could that be the slowing economy :) ?

Rank better, or have more rankings? By switching it up you are opening the door for multiple listings on search engines like Google who serve different results for "blue fuzzy widgets" than they serve for "fuzzy blue widgets" than they do for "blue fuzzy widget" Not plural.

This depends on the competitive nature of the keyword. In my opinion, there are certain limitations to what you can target when you enter highly competitive keywords.
It depends on your approach to optimization. As it is stated in the other thread, you can be highly focused and targeted in your SEO efforts and receive many top 5 rankings for the keyword variations, or you can target the 1 or 2 highly competitive terms.
