Since a couple of days ago, I’m getting really weird behaviour in one of my sites (intranet). Links to Excel files from a html page work perfectly BUT links to Excel files from within another Excel file don’t (Excel opened inside IE window). URLs of Excel files placed in IE also don’t work. I get the following message:

“M$ Excel cannot access the file … There are several possible reasons:

- The file name or path name does not exist.
- The file you’re trying to open is being used by another program. Close the document in the other program, and try again.
- The name of the workbook you’re trying to save is the same as the name of another document that is read-only. Try saving the workbook with a different name.”

Web server is runnig Windows 2000 and IIS. I’ve tried restarting IIS and the server but it doesn’t get fixed. Nobody has installed, changed configuration in quite some time.

Site placed in another server works, files moved to other site in same server don’t work. It looks to me as a problem with the server (Windows or IIS). Has anybody seen something like this before? Any solutions before I try to reinstall the server (there’s a application in that server that I don’t want to touch).

It also happens with Word and PowerPoint files. I think it's some kind of corrupted Windows file. Any clues? (Office is not installed in the server)

Found it, it's a weird M$ bug ( [support.microsoft.com...] ). I had pages set up to expire immediately and for six months in worked well. M$ will never stop impresing me with the quality of their products.
