aspnet_wp?

First off, I will say that I am the webmaster, not the server admin for this site, so my expertise is not in this area exactly. However, I feel it relates to my job to know how the server works, etc.

Anyway, I keep getting a warning message from my host that our aspnet_wp.exe has gone to its max. setting for memory. It usually recovers at some point, but I am wondering a couple of things:

1. How much memory should this have allocated? I am curious if we just have the threshold set too low.

2. Are there things I should be doing to release the aspnet_wp? I am very careful with open connections to databases, etc. but is there something else?

Thanks for any help.

Are you seeing 'recycling due to deadlock' entries in the application event log?

I haven't done that. I will check with our server admin. His line of thought is that it has something to do with the code, so he hasn't looked into it too much. I will check on that. Is there something I should be looking for in those entries, or just that they exist?

It could be the application but be aware that there are bugs related with recycling which is probably what you're seeing when it 'fixes itself' and the aspnet_wp.

Go see support[dot]microsoft[dot]com and search for Q328267.
