I have quite a bit of exposure to ASP and SQLServer

Most web hosting using them costs more.

In anyones experience is it worth learning anything else to save the dough?

cheap hosting is nearly always linux based

... most people here are php & mysql fans

personally i think ms sqlserver is incredibly powerful and is much better than mysql for database driven sites.

my main sites are ms/asp/vbscipt based because thats how i started, my more recent less important sites are apache/php/mysql because it's cheaper!

learning basic php and stuff is very easy

... added.

i think if you get really big the costs merge because bandwidth begins to be your biggest expence rather than software.

-->ASP and SQLServer

You can get both of these for $5 to $25 per month (shared). How much are you paying?

If you don't know PHP/MySQL, it is definitely good to learn. Especially if you're into web development and plan on designing sites for others.

I started out with ASP/MSAcess and often had to decline offers to design sites based on PHP/MySQL. I put an end to that loss of money by learning PHP/MySQL!

To this day, I write code on both platforms and they both have benefits.
