Hey guys, hopefully someone here can help me out..
Here's the problem..
we have a website called (for example) www.thirdparty.com that is hosted and developed off site by a third party..

we've developed a webservice (hosted in house)
accessable through the internet (from thirdparty.com) at a url of mail.oursite.com/webservices

everything is cool until we switched to https..
the third party told us to order a cert. for www.thirdparty.com.. do we need another certificate for mail.oursite.com to be installed? the guys at thirdparty.com are morons, and i'm just a programmer..

thanks.. i'm rushed right now so i'm sure the above isn't totally clear.. i can clarify if its needed...

Welcome to WebmasterWorld.

First off, if your webdev company are really so bad, you should switch.

An SSL certificate for multiple sub domains will cost you roughly five times as much as an SSL certificate for a single domain. So it doesn't make economic sense unless you plan to use your certificate on 5 or more sub domains.

BTW: you might want to use example.com in future. The real owners of thirdparty.com might not take kindly to you using their name in vain.
