IIS and DLLHOST problem.

Problems with IIS and understanding IISSTATE

We have been having issues where our server seems to have an increasingly large sized dllhost, leaving the machine starting to crawl after a few hours of a reboot.

After researching the problem, I found iisstate for debugging certain processes on the machine.

Parts from the log at inetinfo.exe :

Thread ID: 29
System Thread ID: 4ec
Kernel Time: 0:0:0.0
User Time: 0:0:0.0
Thread Type: Possible ASP page. Possible DCOM activity
Executing Page: ASP.dll symbols not found. Unable to locate ASP page.
Continuing with other analysis.

This thread is repeated throughout the full log.

Parts from the log at dllhost.exe :

The same appears before, but also with:

Thread ID: 6
System Thread ID: 568
Kernel Time: 0:0:0.0
User Time: 0:0:0.0
Thread Type: Possible ASP page. Possible DCOM activity
Executing Page: Unable to locate ASP page

Remote call is either to a MTA object or object not initialized. Also, possible utility thread.
DCOM call being made to Process ID: 1532
Waiting on thread id: ffffffff

Anyone got any ideas? Or the best way to balance dllhosts between sites?

You need to check your code for unclosed connections/non-destroyed objects. The only times I've ever seen DLLHOST flake out is with bad code. Possibly an infinite loop, etc.

Do you show any DCOM Objects spinning up in Component Services?
