Compiling a Visual Studio app with VB.NET

Before I fork out the money - does this work?

Hi,

I'm new to .net and I've inherited an ASP.NET application developed with Visual Studio (2002 I think).

I do not really want to fork out the $3,000 AUD for the product and wondered if all I needed to buy is Visual Basic .NET 2003 in order to create the necessary .dll file?

I've downloaded and used Webmatrix (free from MS) - is all I need now something to compile the VB code with?

vs.net is not necessarily required to compile .net apps. You can still use notepad and compile at the command line...

There is plenty of cheap and legit versions of VS on ebay, sadly Mono (GPL .NET port to Unix and Windows) does not support VB.NET fully yet.
