Does Windowsupdate download updates to SQL Server?

Never used to, normally you need to download such things yourself and install manually by visiting the relevant area on the MS website.
Quickest way to check if your patched is to do an @@version command and compare that to the SQL service pack / patch notes.

No, but if you download the Baseline Security Analyzer [microsoft.com], it will tell you what patches you need to install, and give you hyperlinks to the patches.
