Client wants an SMTP Server that allows FULL logging...

Wants to keep the header and full body (w2k server)

Hi guys!

I've got a real headache - I've a client who insists that he wants to log the full text of every outgoing email (!). So, I've dutifully been searching high and low for an SMTP server that will log to that much detail, but to no avail! If anyone can point me in the right direction there will be a beer in it at the next London PubCon!

Got to run on a Windows 2000 Server machine and accept connections from the rest of the network.

Set up outbound messages to be CC'd into an archive location of your choice. All the MTAs should be able to do this.

The logging function of SMTP servers is for tracking the instructions and actions of the SMTP server itself - setup a BCC on the server that sends a copy of every message to some account this client controls - and hope his employee contract covers this dubious act.

So you mean set it up on each client machine to automatically cc? Sound an idea :)

No, you should be able to do this at the server level. This prevents people from getting around the archiving.

Just write a proxy logger which will log all activity and forward requests to real SMTP server which will do the job. People will have to use proxy to send mails though, so it might be wise to deny direct access to SMTP server.
