Hello -

I'm running a web site on a Windows 2000 Server Operating System, with a SQL Server 2000 database server. I want to install a software firewall to address security issues. Can anyone please recommenend the best firewall software option for dedicated serves? I've heard software firewalls may slow the server. Any comments regarding this will be highly appreciated!

I can't afford to purchase a hardware firewall at this time.

Thanks,
Dino

Try this one [bganet.org]

And open only the ports that you really need. I would change the port of all services (that you plan to keep open) to something other than default. (Except 80)

If you purchased Small Business Server, you should be licensed to also run ISA Server (Internet Security and Acceleration).

[microsoft.com...]

This is a software firewall that works within the Microsoft enviornment. It is NOT the same as the personal firewall in Windows XP.

SDANI - The link you sent me takes me to a RRAS Configuration for Windows 2003 Server. I'm running Windows 2000 Server. Wouls this work for Windows 2000?

Thank you.
