ban bots w/o htaccess

can I use global.asa?

I need to start banning some bots, even though my monthly limit of transfer isn't even getting to the max. I was wondering if I could use a global.asa to send 'em a 403 by the user agent.

Has anyone implemented this? Or am I just crazy? ;)
