I am building a site in asp.net(well I heard how alot of ya was talking in good about asp.net so I decided to start learning it) and I really like asp.net. Some times I get a hard time to do what I want to but I'm getting use to it more. When it comes to the database part I'm still kind of confuse! Should i use XML or not. I think that I got the idea of what XML is (everything is described in a text file with balads exam__

<Album>the chronic 2001</album>

and you can have other colums that could be descibed within that column ex

<song>still dre</song>.)

why not just use the database that is in web matrix. and what is Ado.net I know that it builds a bridge between that progra and the database(I read that) but can we program in asp.net, use databases without ado.net .

thanks in advance and keep the positive VIBE guy's

We gonna make it, Montreal, Canada

The main disadvantage of XML for data store is that it doesn't provide locking for writes, and there is no security. For static data stores, where the end user is not making changes, XML is a pretty good solution. It is much easier to maintain on a web site than a database.

One warning: XML is case sensitive. <Album>the chronic 2001</album> needs to be <Album>the chronic 2001</Album> or <album>the chronic 2001</album> or it won't be well-formed.

Whenever I need XML, I retrieve it out of the database using the FOR XML option.

You can use classic ADO using COM interop. But that seems silly when ADO.NET is better, unless you are trying to talk to some legacy stuff.
