I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post this here. If it's not please delete my message and accept my apologies. I did read the Charter first and it seemed alright to post this.

A neighbor/friend of mine is having a problem I'm trying to fix.

Her Dell Optiplex GS with an SMC EtherCard Elite 16 Ultra is turning on every morning at 9:11 AM.

I wasn't aware this was possible unless the NIC was connected to a computer that could send the Wake on LAN signal.

The BIOS is Phoenix but Dell seems to have disabled access to it so I can't check to see if there's something going on there.

I thought the only way to turn on a computer was via Wake on LAN. Is there something in the Phoenix BIOS that will activate the computer at a specified time even if the NIC isn't connected to another computer or to a network? I did check the Phoenix website without success.

Many thanks to anyone who can offer some assistance.

Thanks. That URL looks helpful, however I don't seem to be able to gain access to the BIOS. I've tried F2 and F10 but neither works.

In case it makes a difference the OS is Windows 98 SE.

Is there a brute force method for gaining access to the BIOS?
