in short, yes. However, one version of the framework contains an as yet unfixed bug which will stop you developing. I'm afraid I don't have any more information to had at the minute. You might want to do a search on Windows XP ASP.net framework problem.

Here is a link about the XP error: ht*tp://msdn.microsoft.com/asp.net/support/support/servapp/

In regards to the os, I would stay away from XP for developing. I personally would go with Window2000 as I have always used it in the past and never had any problems. However, I have never used 2003.

The IIS version that ships with win 2003 has some nice new features, but for development it has no real advantages compared to winxp pro and win2k.

chris_f that bug is for the framework 1.0. I think it is important for people starting to use 1.1. It has a lot of bug fixes in it and is just more stable. Obviously old development using 1.0 can't always upgrade, but it is worth it to move from visual studio.net to visual studio.net 2003 which runs the 1.1 framework.

You will find with xp pro and the 1.1 framework is extremely more stable than win2k. Many strange issues with win2k and visual studio.net 2003.
