Does anyone know if it is possible to use layers as editable regions in dreamweaver?? Tryin' to get away from tables here. Thanks.

Yeah - no problem at all
You can make the layer itself editable, or just make the layer content editable (depends on where you let it drop the editable tags - edit by hand if needed)
