I normally live in Forum 3, so good evening to you all from the UK...

I converted an HTML 4 site into XHTML 1.0 using Dreamweaver MX for Mac.

Whenever I edit a template for this site, then as I save it, I get the error I put in the subject of this email.

Up pops an HTML Corrections dialogue, with a huge "BING" sound and it lectures me as follows.
Line 7, column 62 - Closed a <meta> tag that was left unclosed.

Well, so far so good...
Line 7 is actually a <!-- TemplateEndEditable --> and doesn't have 62 columns.
Indeed for different templates, the whole of the start of the XHTML is different, but the error is always the same.

Before saving it, I can do an HTML check and it passes. After saving it and letting it "correct" the fault it made of its own accord, the file looks the same.
And if I change something in line 50 (say) and re-save the template, BING and the error reappears.

Is this a bug in Dreamweaver, or is there something it's trying to tell me is wrong, and is reporting it erroneously?

All insights gratefully received

Best regards
DerekH

It does something similar to me in one of the ancient sites I referred to in another thread - says I've altered something that can't be altered, yet it changes it nonetheless.

DW templates are horrible things...
