Welcome to WebmasterWorld wusin.

A subdomain usually has to be set up on your server. I'm pretty sure that DW can't do that on its own. Check with your hosting company to see how they handle subdomain setup.

I can't answer DW specific questions very well as I don't have a copy. However, from my experience with subdomains I usually find that I have to make a separate website for that. A subdomain is considered to be a separate website in FrontPage, and that program will allow you to make sub-webs which are linked but considered separate in terms of navigation schemas and other site-wide features. Maybe DW has something similar to FP's sub-webs?

"make sub-webs which are linked but considered separate in terms of navigation schemas and other site-wide features."
yes, that's what I see.

that's why I want to 'insert' this subdomain into my main domain and get all the site link and management functions to work within mx.

I think I have to stay with mx with no choice.

thanks, bill

I'm not trying to get you to switch to FP, don't get me wrong. ;)

WYSIWYG site building packages work alike in a lot of areas, so I was hoping that my FP analogy might help. The concept of sub-webs in FP is useful for times when you don't want site-wide navigation, etc. to apply to a certain folder. I'm sure the DW model has something similar. The problem you have is that you want to keep those elements.

A subdomain is for all intents and purposes a separate website. In FP or DW I don't think you can use all of the built-in bells and whistles in this case. You'll have to make a separate web.

You could make use of SSI to include some common elements on each site. However, I don't know whether that would alter the DW work-flow for you.

Absolutely true for DW.

wusin essentially what your asking is can you have two domains with one site set-up in DW and the answer is no.
