Okay, here's a new one. (I Just love the bugginess of dreamweaver mx 2004).

I have a site driven by a few templates. I've been making changes to the templates. I've saved and been prompted if I wanted to update the pages in the site that use the template, I, of course, said yes. It did it, no problem.

I did this numerous times..then I recently noticed that suddenly the results dialog box has changed..it now examines all the files, but updates none of the files.

How the heck has this happened? By it's very nature, a template change should update the files that depend on it. I know I hit no accidental buttons or whatever to activate some hidden function..it has just stopped working. The template is still attached, I can see the declaration at the top of the files that use the template.

I have really started to get disgusted with the myriad bugs and quirks associated with this version of dreamweaver.

Are you making your changes in the editable or non-editable regions of the template?

oh, sorry, I should have mentioned. I'm not making changes to the editable regions. I know those regions don't update when a template is changed. The changes are being made to the uneditable regions that I want changed through the site.

Sorry, I hope you understand I had to ask that.

Have you tried re-creating the site cache? Or perhaps deleting the site definition (not the actual files, just the site def) from DW's site manager, and then re-defining the site? It sure sounds like DW's confused about something.

And just to make sure: Your template is in a folder called Templates, at the document root of your site as defined in Dreamweaver? And there's nothing else in the Templates folder other than templates? And all the site files are within the document root of the site as defined in Dreamweaver?

Oh yes. especially with templates :)

Sonjay gives to good tips to keep it all working true and honest. This is good practice just so you get oil to the parts of DW that do not get sorted that often.

Also when using templates I always keep a backup copy of the entire site on CD so I can format the site lists every now and again and re edit the remote and local site data - this comes in very handy if you have contribute users too (I really really dislike that software! - bugs a plenty).
