Bare Bones Software recently released BBEdit 8. I'm currently coding by hand using BBEdit Lite v 6.1.2.

Has anybody tried the new version, is it worth the upgrade? Maybe I could manage just fine with my current version, or upgrade to the slightly higher spec Text Wrangler?

I love the new version. Why do you need to upgrade? I needed to add syntax highlighting for a non-standard language. I had been waiting for this for a while. I'm still experimenting with Smultron as well.

Hey,

Thanks for the heads up with Smultron! Looks really good.

I only need a basic HTML editor, but I use batch find / replace lots.

Smultron has a lot going for it right now, not least the fact that it is free! :)

How does it compare to something like EditPad, which replaced notepad on all my machines?

Smultron is really good, but unfortunately doesn't have the batch find & replace features in BBEdit Lite. If they added that, I would probably switch over for good.
