A propspective client currently uses Frontpage to manage their one page website. They have decided that they would now like a 'professional' (for lack of a better word) site created for them.

I've never used Frontpage, though have seen the term 'extensions' associated with it; in the sense that these need to be loaded on the server (Am I missing something here?).

My question is - if I create a website (hand coded) for them will they be able to update it with Frontpage (as one might with dreamweaver or sim)

Cheers

The last I heard, when you ftp you will remove the extensions. The extensions are for things like includes, shared borders, page counters and the like.

If they are not using anything that requires the extensions, I can't think of where there would be a problem and they could still edit the site with FP.

Of course, it would be better if they just let you do it.

Extensions are only used for certain components as Poppy122 mentioned. Just don't use those components and you can FTP all you like. There is no need for extensions based hosting then either. A hand coded site can be maintained with FP just fine.

Thank you both for the replies.

I'll just have to make sure that the client doesn't add anything that requires extensions (it sounds like their existing page is purely text and images - so all should be okay)

Thanks again

Isn't one of the FP extensions, create the ability for users to browse to the page they want to edit. Click the edit button that brings up FrontPage and then Save directly to the site?

Or has this changed in recent versions? He can FTP the files but if client want to do the small updates, is that possible without the extensions. Is or can FP be setup to just ftp?

If the server extensions are not on the host then FP will use its own FTP client to upload the site.
