you have the sychronised FTP option in Dreamweaver though i personally would not trust that unless you have it set, that when you login FTP, the remote is the master, and downloads straight to the system you currently on.

I've been trying to find a system for myself as i edit modify and create sites on dreamweaver from four computers in 3 different locations, i've found using an external editor, and downloading a current copy the best way, however serious updating of site structure is way beyond this method.

I prefer a seperate FTP program but if you go into EDIT SITES, select the Site you want and EDIT. Under REMOTE INFO select FTP by Access: and enter FTP info. There is an option box for Automatically upload files to server on save

DW will still work with a local chached version but will then upload automatically.(Thats the theory atleast)

you may want to use a different FTP program. i use 'Transfer' on a mac, i can view and edit the code from the FTP window.

i don't think they make 'Transfer' for PC's, but i think 'CuteFTP' will let you do this.

This is where the "FrontPage" extensions on the Server are needed for FrontPage to connect directly along with a few other FP specifics.

If you set up DW with the FTP connection info and auto-upload on save, it would nearly replicate the FP direct connect. You would open in the Files area change to "Remote View"=(FTP site) select the page you want to edit and it brings down a temporary copy of the page and when you are done editing and save it it will auto-upload.

I guess I don't see how that is so much different from what FP does.

If FP works for you don't change.
