Beginner Creating Template

I am brand new to Dreanweaver MX 2004 and I am trying to use the Halo CSS file as a template. I made the page a template .dwt file. Is this correct? I have a few newbie questions:

Do I make all regions editable on the template page and set everything up the way I want it on each page and than save it as a .dwt file or as an index.htm file? I am working on the navigation bar to begin with, entering in the page titles I would want the user to click on in the navigation area. For instance I am trying to change the global links in the nav bar that come with the template to: Home, Monster Commerce, BCentral, etc... Am I on the right track? I must admit I am totally confused at this point.

Thanks,

I found the "Getting Started and Tutorials" under "Help" gave me a feel for the program as a whole.

I haven't used 2004 at all, but I do use MX.

Templates are used when you have several pages that will have common elements (like top level navigation).

It is a great feature actually.

Try creating a template and create and editable region (a div or table) that will contain your content that will vary from page to page.

That way when you update something OUTSIDE your editable regions it will update it across all 20/50/1000+ pages that you have created from that template.

Hope this makes sense. It is a very useful feature when you get the hang of it.
