I was going to use the web component but it doesn't let me change it very much is there any other ones that work in FP?

Try Atomz for sites under 500 pages.

I use Fluid Dynamics Search Engine (fdse) on a 140 page website + it's forum and I love it. I can easily filter out all of the pages that I don't want to show up in search results, and set the weighting for words found in titles, and meta tags.

Another vote for FDSE. Their web site has a free service where it will install the script for you. Its awesome!

It shouldn't matter if you are using FP. Just use whatever search script you want.

I use Perlfect.

Moderate difficulty getting it going, but works great for more than 1,000 pages.

Another vote for Atomz, I have used them for over a year and find their service very good.

I've been using Fluid Dynamics Search on several websites since '98 or so. No complaints, although I'm sure there are equally good or better free scripts available; I've been using it out of convenience, not perceived "best in class" characteristics.

I have an Atomz free account and like the offering, but haven't integrated it into any sites yet. Looks like a very attractive option as long as you stay within the limits of their free search.

Lots of other options should come to you by searching for "freeware search script" or your desired programming language, eg. "PHP search script".

Features to look for -- ability to block certain directories or files from the search results, and good logging of all searches performed (valuable data to see what your visitors are hunting for).
