Stranded on a Deserted Island with a laptop and Satellite Internet

What Dreamweaver Extensions would you take with you?

My apologies to the Frontpage Wranglers and the Hand Coding Machos at WW, but this post is about the added functionality of Dreamweaver through Extensions. ;)

Ok- it's an absurd scenario but aside from ten cases of Diet Coke and a couple burritos, what Dreamweaver extensions would you bring along if you were stranded on a deserted island?

Myself, I could not bear to be stranded without the following:

Lorem Ipsum
Man, clients don't always come through with the content in time. With Lorem Ipsum production doesn't have to stop. Just fill up the blanks with Latin!

Form Builder 1.1.1
Forms can be a royal pain. Nothing makes short work out of building forms like this extension. It has saved hours of my time, and helped speed pages to the server.

Image Toolbar Fever!
This enters a simple meta tag. I suppose you could store this as a snippet or memorize the syntax and enter it by hand but it's so convenient to have it live on my Insert Toolbar, dammit.

Center Pop-up Window
Another personal favorite. This one will center your pop-ups within the browser window using javascript.

JustSo Picture Gallery
Wow. This is cool. It requires Fireworks to work. It optimizes photos and generates the code to create a fast loading picture gallery. You can then cut and paste the generated JavaScript and slap 'em into your web page so it integrates into your design. Nice.

What Extensions would you bring with you?

If it wasn't for that extension I'd have to start hand coding.

Maybe the fact that I have no idea what Dreamweaver Extensions are would account for the fact that despite having spent the last six months struggling with the Stupidest Project Ever in Dreamweaver, I'm thinking that for my personal use I should switch to just using a freaking text editor...

Also the one that backs up your site definitions.

You're right- the site backup extension is like gold. Additionally it backs up all of your preferences too.

dragonlady7,

Go to macromedia's web site [macromedia.com]. Find the link at the bottom of the page for "Accessibility" and click it. Choose to view the HTML version of the web site and click around/search for the Dreamweaver Exchange. (I put a link on the words, "web site" but Macromedia's web site is so unreliable that I'm not sure if it works or not).

There you will find lots of time saving add-ons.

The Flash version of their web site is a complete mess. It makes you do in 6 clicks what you would ordinarily do in two. Yuck.

Thanks for the link, martinibuster. Of course it didn't work, and of course I couldn't get to the HTML version of their site, which didn't want to work in Safari anyway. Jeez. I'll try it from work tomorrow. Give me something to do to distract from the monotony of the idiocy of those whose decisions most affect my work. Right-o! On that negative note, it is time for me to go to bed! Again, thanks, y'all!

Dragonlady7,

you can in windows goto: start > programs > macromedia extension manager > then click on the Macromedia sign, and that will take you to the Exchange.

Oh, don't bother with Opera browser, its not supported, has to be IE, NN, Mozilla or AOL.

Thanks!
Mmm... my Start menu doesn't show half the programs on my computer; our "computer guy" is the boss' brother and spends his entire work day grumbling about Windows because he prefers Macs, but being a bit of a Mac geek myself I asked him about them one day and quickly determined that he hadn't a clue about them either and was just using them as an excuse not to know anything about Windows. Sheesh.
So, that doesn't work. I have Mozilla here, though, so I'll do it through their website. Thanks! Oh, wait, here it is in the DW menu itself. I should probably RTFM, too... ;)
Then maybe, once I'm properly edjamacated, I'll join y'all on your desert island for a little DW party! Should I bring beer too?

4eyes thanks for your mention of layer2style - somehow I missed that one at the exchange - maybe it's because the exchange is rather annoying to visit these days...

Anyhow, it's already saved me tons of time - nifty tool.

Now that's not what I call being stranded really... but I'd still enjoy the nice weather and maybe order some nice european escorts for a couple hours... then maybe seek for help... but DW Extensions? Wouldn't think about them even for a second! hehe.
