Hi all

My DWMX has suddenly started to use RAM like newer before. with the site i am working on i am copy-pasting alot could this be the reason for the excessive memory use?

Anyone with experience on this issue - kindly speak.

Kind regards
Hafnius

I've found DW to occasionally get clobbered by memory leaks, either of its creation or from other apps running at the same time. Either way, DW is the app that eventually freezes.

I've seen many fewer problems with this on a machine running XP (vs. @#$%& WinME on the other one).

Dreamweaver saves "undos" in RAM, save your documents to free up RAM.

In preferences, you should also limit the amount of undos that DW keeps track of, I think the default is 30 or so. So if you have 10 files open and your making changes to all of them, the "undoes" do add up.

Another good idea for DW MX is to save everything and close it down once in a while and then restart the prog. It is a strange beast! :)

Dreamweaver saves "undos" in RAM, save your documents to free up RAM.

That is probably the culprit. I do like the fact that i can hit "undo" even though i have saved the document and thereby reinstating the document in a presave condition.

So the solution i guess is

to save everything and close it down once in a while and then restart the prog.
which also makes for a nice coffeebrake.

Thanx for the advice.

when running microsoft software on a microsoft operating system it is a good tip to reboot the complete system after some hours of use. this will fresh the ram, too! ;)

A big problem i get with Dreamweaver and memory is when it searches through your entire site and keeps a record of all links and names of pages.

This allows you to quickly rename a page of course as it then renames them for you but it uses loads of memory.

I often "save up" my renames etc and restart Dreamweaver after i've finished changing stuff.

Just in case anyone else runs into this, I was having the same problem and resloved it by simply recreating my site definitions.
