Can someone tell me what <!-- DW6 --> does in Dreamweaver MX Template Pages? And why can't it be removed?

MX templates can include more bells & whistles than were offered in earlier versions of DreamWeaver/UltraDev & my guess would be this tag is simply an identifier so that MX knows which version of DreamWeaver the template was produced in.

If it is an identifer of sorts, it'll be a fixed part of the template as with the marking of editable regions, hence unmovable.

Purely guesswork since I'm still using UltraDev. Anyone else care to elaborate? :)

an older thread talks about it here [webmasterworld.com]

I guess every editor has its pro's and cons, though searching n replacing comments aint all that bad :)

And there was me thinking such code bloat was more a FrontPage & MS thing - Macromedia must be slipping!

I would hardly call 12 characters bloat.

It's probably to do with the fact that DW MX can also handle sites using DW4 template tags.
