Is there an option in DWMX that would prevent it from entering such comments as:

into my code?

fashezee I have the older version of dreamweaver. Do they behave the same here?

I don't think so, perhaps it uses them to remind itself what it is doing.

the additional,unwanted comments with DWMX.

Try going to Commands then Clean up HTML and check off Dreamweaver special markup.
