Parsing the content from a template

I redesigned a site not too long ago using DW, and the very handy template feature. Unfortunately, I did not know then what I know now, and I would like to make some changes.

When I went to apply a new template (saving over the existing template), I get update errors, and a very big mess mainly due to the poor coding of the original pages.

I am wondering if there is a good way I can parse out the content within my 'editable region' to "start from scratch" with a new template.

If anyone can be of some help in this area I would greatly appreciate it.
