Hi. I'm quite new to website building - I have built my own page, but it is not that good, so I want to use a template.

I downloaded a template from the macromedia site, and I cannot edit things like the background colour. When I try to change it, I get the error message "Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be discarded."

Looking at the code part, I notice quite a few editable html lines - "<-- #EndEditable -->", however I am poor at html and cannot figure out how to change these - they are greyed out in code view.

How do I unlock this template so I can edit all the things I want to edit in it?

I am using Dreamweaver MX 2004 v7.0.1.

Really simple way: open it with Notepad, change and save.

Alternatively, learn about editing templates. This will work MUCH better over time. Key trick, don't try and edit the .html file that you'll post to the net, but open the TEMPLATE file in Dreamweaver and changes will be easy. When you save the template file, it'll ask if you want to update the pages that use the template. Check Yes.
