Hello,

Extreme rookie here reading all I can in the many threads! I'm looking at either FrontPage 2003 or a version of Dreamweaver for a program.

Wanted to know what specifically is a text editor and will I need one? I see I can get one very reasonable.

What applications to they have?... and their relationship to building websites?

Thanks,

A text editor is just as the name suggests a program for editing text!

Your html pages are nothing more than text, so the editor will allow you to create and change them.

FP2003 has a text editor built in, just select the 'html view' and away you go. Sorry, I've never used DW, but I would be suprised if it doesn't also have an editor.

It's worth bearing in mind there are plenty of free text editors about, and Windows includes notepad, which many use to create websites.

This thread is about editors:

Keep in mind that FP2003 will let you configure external editors to work with any file in your web. I was testing this out with NoteTab and TopStyle as text editors within FP for a while. I've heard you can do similar things with DW as well. You don't need a text editor with either of these programs, but you can certainly use another if the one that is built in doesn't suit you.
